Step-by-step guide
Tools Needed:
Phillips head screwdriver (preferably 150 mm)
Small flat head screwdriver (to use as a pry)
Part 1: Adjust Your Sliding Door Strikers
- Open your sliding door and locate the striker plate inside the frame. There are different types — some sit inside the frame, and others on the outside — but the adjustment principle is the same for all.
- To wind the striker out, put your Phillips head screwdriver into the top screw, then the bottom screw, winding anti-clockwise, and then the middle screw just to keep tension on the outside striker plate.
- To wind the striker in to make it tighter, do the reverse: wind the small screw clockwise in, then the two outer screws clockwise in. This will wind the striker in.
Part 2: Adjust Your Sliding Door Rollers
- Check the door: if it’s touching at the top and not the bottom, the roller may need to be wound to lift the door up or lowered to drop it down.
- Look for clearance between the top of the aluminum and the track. If there’s quite a bit of space, the door can go down — lower the roller to square the door up.
- Tools needed for rollers: screwdriver (approx. 150 mm) and a pry bar.
- Release the bottom bung using a pry bar, then slide the Phillips head screwdriver into the adjustment hole to find the screw in the bottom rail.
- To lower the roller, turn it anti-clockwise. The screws will lose tension, and the panel will start to drop. Wind to the desired amount, and slide the door a couple of times to let the roller sink in.
- To lift the door, follow the same steps with a second person to help. Have the second person place their foot at the bottom and pull the handle towards them to take the weight off the roller, then turn the screw clockwise to lift the door, and remove the screwdriver.
- Check alignment: make sure everything lines up, close the door, and test it locks eaasy. Everything should sit nice and square, and you’re done!
