BAY BOARDRIDERS

Bay Boardriders has a long history having been part of the Mount Maunganui community since the 1960s.

Making a Splash with NZWindows and BBR

Alongside being a local institution nurturing the local surfing community, BBR continually produces quality, high-performing national and internationally recognised surfers across a range of divisions.

Bay Boardriders is both the largest and top-performing surfing club in the country with 130+ active competing members from 8-year-olds to 60-year plus! Local Summer Series club days see 100+ surfers in the water and 200+ supporters enjoying the waves and community days on the beach.

The club has a far reach across the surf community in New Zealand with their extensive junior and adult-base. BBR is currently the undisputed top-performing club in the country – holding the New Zealand Primary Schools trophy, New Zealand Scholastics trophy, and the New Zealand Hurley Club trophy 2023 and 2024.

Our Group Manager – Sales and Branches, Bruce Tod, has been involved for the last 4 years with the Boardriders committee:

“My involvement with the club comes from my love of surfing and the ocean, as well as my kids, Maddie and Arlo, and their early adoption of surfing as part of their lives! At Boardriders we run a calendar of surf comps throughout of the year and compete nationally as a club team and many of our individual club members compete on the national circuit.

Every season we see so many amazing results and performances for local Mount-based surfers at all levels at club days and national events. BBR had multiple NZ team representatives at the Junior and Open ISA World Surfing games, with Anna and Sophia Brock selected as NZ team reserves.

What drives my involvement at the Boardriders club is giving kids from an early age exposure to surfing in a fun but competitive environment, that also offers a development pathway for kids potentially through to a professional career. With surfing’s inclusion in the Olympics, there has been a massive surge in popularity in the last few years which is great for the future funding and growth of the resources for NZ to help some future world class surfers. There is no better way to spend your days with your mates in the ocean!”
